ICAD for Father's Day

I scanned in some old family photos of my husband with our children when they were young, resizing them & printed them out to created a collage of sorts in honour of Father's Day and the great father my husband has been to our children.

ICADs June 12 - June 18, 2017

Last week we hit the road and did a bit of camping, but that did not mean I was any less committed to the ICAD challenge so I packed up some index cards, watercolours and pencil crayons. We stopped at thrift stores along the way, and I picked up a gardening book and an old Simplicity sewing pattern, and visitor information brochures & maps, which are featured in some of the ICADs below).

ICAD

I am really enjoying working on these index cards. The 4x6 size makes it feel so "do-able" and really, anything goes. It's been fun experimenting with different styles and art supplies.

Season of Colour - Orchids - Gloriously Beautiful

Get Messy's Season of Colour has just started hurray! Vanessa's tutorial had me thinking about how I would express the colours of how I am feeling in that moment and this is the result! Orchids ... they are indeed, gloriously beautiful. Whenever I see orchids it brings back fond memories of our visit to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden on the Big Island in 2015 where they had a whole section of the garden devoted to orchids. If I could only use 1 word to describe that garden, it would be this: heavenly!

Summer Cool

I love that technology helps me be more connected to family. Rachel recently sent me a text with a photo of Brynne and the caption was "Summer Cool". I immediately knew I had the perfect title (& photo) for a scrapbook page. Within days of receiving Brynne's photo I saw a photo of Torah posted on instagram and knew it would be the perfect companion photo for this scrapbook layout.

Index a Day (ICAD) Challenge

After seeing so much "buzz" about the annual ICAD kick off on instagram, I did a little investigating and decided to play along. The ICAD challenge is about doing a tiny creative project each day for 61 days. You can find more about it here: https://daisyyellowart.com/icad-base

Here are the index cards I've completed thus far & I've got to say, I'm totally enjoying this challenge!

Artful Adventures - Contrast

The prompt was "contrast". I created this mini art journal page which shows the contrast between the warm & cool colours in the rooster, the black & white background and title, and parts of the rooster that I altered with glitter. I cut this rooster cut out from an ad I found (below) in a free Chinese newspaper I picked up in late January this year, celebrating the year of the rooster.
