Let the Creative Spirit Win

While we've thoroughly enjoyed spending time with our daughter and her family, we have not enjoyed the weather in Toronto this week ... it's been C.O.L.D., and to top it all off, a winter storm blew into the city. Today we had a crafting day with the girls, and made collages, and this was mine:

Travel time!

Packed my travel watercolours along with a small travellers type notebook; we're spending spring break in Toronto. I sketched this scene as we waited on the tarmac for de-icing of our plane and finished it once we were in the air. I don't know how much "art" time I'll get this week; I have a feeling our granddaughters will be keeping us quite busy!!

Flowers make me happy

It's been a very long winter and I'm growing weary of the recurrent sub-zero temperatures we've been experiencing, so what better way to chase away the winter blues than to think about beautiful flowers and how happy they make me feel! This is my first ever magazine collage.

He Counts the Stars

I enjoyed creating the galaxy watercolour background and then combining it with remnants of celestial fabric. I then added the scripture, printing/writing it out in varying sizes on tissue paper to ensure correct placement on the background.

Season of Art 101 - Expressive Lines

This page was inspired by this week's Getty Messy expressive lines tutorial. I started with a magazine illustration, applied some gesso on the outer edges and once dry, applied some water soluble oil pastels to create the background and used a brown stabilo all pencil and acrylic paint pens on the face and flowers.

Season of Art 101 - Dare to Soar

We had another great tutorial this week, on how to incorporate expressive lines in our work. I did not *exactly* follow the tutorial when creating this page, but incorporated some "lines" by dipping a credit card into some black acrylic paint.
